How to use beard balm

How to use beard balm

Firstly, we'll explain what beard balm is and the purpose it serves.

What is beard balm?

Beard balm is a form of "leave in" conditioner for your beard that can either be used as a stand-alone item or over the top of beard oil. I like to use a small amount of balm over the top of my oil as I like the extra level of protection and hold that it gives. Yes, you read that right, our balms offer a certain amount of hold so that you can style your beard, or just keep it in check.

Beard balm can help moisturise your beard and lock in moisture, this is especially handy when battling the elements in the great outdoors whether it dry and hot, or cold and wet, think of it as a nice smelling layer of protection for your beard.

At MADD Beard Co we like to keep everything natural and vegan friendly, that is why you'll never see beeswax in any of our balms. We've opted for Candelilla wax as an alternative and have had great results with it.

How to use beard balm

Similarly to beard oil, we'd recommend using less as you can always add more after. Start by using the back of a fingernail to scrape some balm out of the tin, a pea-sized amount should work just fine. Once you've removed the desired amount, place it in your palm and rub your hands together to build up some heat and melt the balm (in colder conditions you may find the balm crystallises a little, don't just get more heat in there). At this point, you'll now have a good layer of balm all over your palms. Starting at the centreline of your moustache, sweep your hands downward and out to the jawline, then from the cheek line down and out. It is as simple as that.

It's worth mentioning that this is what works well for us, but would still be a solid starting point for anyone else.

How often to use beard balm

This really is personal preference, I'll use it once a day as rule, however, If I have a meeting or I'm heading out straight from work, I'll use a little more balm to keep everything shipshape.

Bonus uses of beard balm

  • Can be used to condition and style the hair on your head
  • Moisturise the skin on your head should you have no hair there
  • Great to use on dry skin, elbows in particular
  • It's natural ingredients make it great to use on fresh tattoos
  • Warming chest rub? Try New Rope and see for yourself

Anyway, we hope you enjoyed our little how-to.

Have a MADD day,

Marc.
